Assistant Principal ( Primary )
It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as Assistant Principal for Primary at GEMS Al Barsha National School. It is an honour to be working with such a talented team and as part of such a well-respected organisation.
I entered the teaching profession in 1999, after graduating from Oxford Brookes University. From then, I taught in all year groups and in different contexts from London to Yorkshire. This gave me the invaluable experience needed to ensure that I truly understand how children learn, how to unlock the curriculum and ensure each child reaches their fullest potential. In 2015 I was judged as an outstanding practitioner and so privileged to be made a Peer Support Teacher in North Yorkshire. This role required me to work with many teachers to develop their teaching and understanding of curriculum and assessment. In 2016 I gained my Middle Leadership Qualification enabling me to develop further my skills and knowledge on driving successful team performance and improving classroom practice.
I moved to China in 2017 working in an international school as a Deputy Headteacher responsible for standards across the whole curriculum for all children from 2- 11 years old. Each year, I shaped and added to the pioneering, knowledge-based curriculum ensuring that learning was purposeful, transferable, exciting and relevant. My passion for innovation and continuous learning won me two prestigious grants to create impactful learning spaces based on collaborative learning and ensuring each pupil’s voice and ideas were captured, listened to and acted on.
The start of term is one of my favourite times of an academic year, students arrive refreshed and with such excitement about the new learning that lies ahead of them. I see it is a huge honour to play a part in shaping a rich curriculum and ensuring that each child loves learning, is a seeker of knowledge and uses this knowledge to understand themselves as learners and the world in which they live. I am so proud to be joining GEMS Al Barsha community and look forward greatly to getting to know each and every exceptional child.
